Twenty-eight years. That's how long it's been since the Devils had a general manager other than Lou Lamoriello, who took over on April 30, 1987.
But no longer, as Lamoriello announced Monday that he will concede the job to Ray Shero, who previously held the same position with the Penguins. Shero will be only the fourth GM in the history of the franchise.
Before looking forward, though, it's always worth looking back. And in a post that really puts Lamoriello's tenure in perspective, Puck Daddy itemizes the Devils' numerous franchise-shaping moves and achievements under Lamoriello; the list is both lengthy and impressive. And while it's been a rough past few years, the point is that Lamoriello was Devils hockey for most of the past 30 years, a span that covers the birth of many of the team's current players.
