Evander Kane Scores OT Winner As Sabres Stun Sharks

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 5:34 p.m. ET

The Buffalo Sabres continued their dominance of one of the NHL’s best teams, capping a furious comeback with a thrilling OT win.

There is no way for me to explain what happened tonight, Buffalo Sabres fans.

Somehow, the same team that could only muster one goal on 23 shots against the crappy New Jersey Devils Monday evening found a way to defeat the San Jose Sharks, only the second-best team in the Western Conference, tonight 5-4 in overtime.

As amazing as it is to consider that the Sabres are 2-0 against the reigning Western Conference champions, what is even more amazing about tonight’s comeback is that Buffalo managed to overcome a 4-1 deficit and a forgettable 51 minutes of hockey to score three goals in the span of 3:28 to tie this thing up, all of which allowed Jack Eichel to work his magic with Evander Kane:

That’s some serious speed coming down ice if you ask me, and you gotta love how Kane kept on motoring even though he was putting himself in harm’s way.  If he slows down even a touch, that beautiful pass by Eichel might just graze the toe of Kane’s stick, or miss it altogether.

The goal was Kane’s second on the evening, giving him 16 for the season.  Cue the “Time to trade Buffalo’s second-best goal scorer” talk!

That was a great finish to a hockey game that looked like another total-ass kicking for the Buffalo Sabres.  Will it be enough to help turn February into the Sabres’ second-straight month of playing .500 hockey or better?  Dunno, but it sure would be nice for a change!
