Ex-Boston Bruins G.M. Peter Chiarelli meeting with Oilers
Chiarelli was fired as the Boston Bruins general manager on April 15, and has already been contacted by the Edmonton Oilers.
With the recent announcement that Bob Nicholson was appointed as the new CEO and "the boss of everything," the Chiarelli development is intriguing for Edmonton. It is not immediately clear what the plans for Chiarelli would be. But what is clear is that Nicholson is looking to add experience to his front office, and he is ready to take command and change face within Edmonton.
Nicholson and Chiarelli have a prior working relationship with Team Canada. Nicholson worked as the president and CEO of Team Canada, while Chiarelli had several managerial positions within the international powerhouse.
Chiarelli built a respectable resume in his time with the Bruins, winning a Stanley Cup in the 2010-11 season. But recently, his relationship with Boston grew sour. The most glaring mark on his resume was the trade that sent prized forward Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley and Ryan Button for Loui Eriksson, Reilly Smith, Matt Fraser and Joe Morrow.
