Family affair: Ray Ferraro interviews son Landon during son's Bruins debut
There aren't many times in the NHL when a father is able to interview his son on live TV, but that rare family moment came to fruition Monday night when new Bruin Landon Ferraro was interviewed by his father, TSN rinkside reporter Ray Ferraro, after the second period of Monday's game between the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs.
The elder Ferraro seemed lost for words when his son first skated over for the interview, but he quickly got back into the rhythm of his job, peppering Landon with questions about whether a goal originally credited to Landon was truly his (it wasn't, with the goal later credited to Brad Marchand) and what Landon's first day with his new team was like. But a father can only stay neutral for so long, and the older Ferraro ended the interview by encouraging his son to go score another goal.
"It’s something that’s pretty cool for a family to be able to have that," Landon Ferraro said on the Bruins' postgame show of being interviewed by his father. "I’m sure we’ll get a picture out of it or something. That’ll be something to keep for a long time."
The younger Ferraro was picked up off waivers by the Bruins on Sunday. Ferraro was originally drafted in the second round of the 2009 NHL Draft by the Red Wings, but played just 17 games over the past three years with Detroit. Ferraro's assist on Marchand's goal Monday night was the first assist (and second point) of his NHL career.
