Flames' Bennett starting to feel at home on the ice
Calgary Flames rookie forward Sam Bennett certainly loves his home cookin'.
No, we're not talking about the Flames' play at Scotiabank Saddledome, where the team has limped to a 3-5-0 mark. Rather, Bennett has admitted to gaining confidence on the ice now that he has grown acclimated to life at his condo with his roommate, who happens to be his father.
"It's always nice to have someone there to support you," Bennett told the Calgary Herald of his father, Dave, who took a leave of absence from his job in Toronto to move in with his 19-year-old son.
"It's nice to have him here to cook me meals because I’m not a very good cook. And he’s really good."
Bennett has feasted on homestyle atmosphere of late, rebounding from a sluggish start by collecting three goals and five assists in his last six games.
The fourth overall pick of the 2014 draft, Bennett accentuated his flourish with a highlight-reel goal in an eventual 5-2 victory versus the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. Bennett breezed through the Penguins' defense, slipped around blue-liner Ian Cole before beating Marc-Andre Fleury to give Calgary a two-goal advantage late in the first period.
