Flames' Gaudreau making his point in overtime
Forward Johnny Gaudreau and the Calgary Flames have stepped up their play when the game ventures past regulation this season.
In fact, Gaudreau has collected seven points (three goals, four assists) in the extra session to tie Markus Naslund (2003-04) and Joe Thornton (2005-06) for the NHL record. The 22-year-old Gaudreau told reporters that he gets excited when the contest goes to overtime - and so do the Flames, who are an NHL-best 8-1 in games that span past the third period.
Via the Calgary Sun:
That was certainly the case on Tuesday as Gaudreau led a 2-on-1 rush before sliding the puck to defenseman Kris Russell, who made no mistake as the Flames posted a 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators.
Gaudreau's seven points in the extra session have him ahead of Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek, who resides in second place with one goal and four assists.
Gaudreau has collected 12 goals and 20 assists this season, which are exactly half his totals in both categories during the 2014-15 campaign.
"I like it. I think the whole team smiles because we’ve been playing well three-on-three. There’s a lot of time and space."
