Flyers GM Hextall tees off on team: 'Accountability is demanded'

Ron Hextall lowered the boom on his struggling team Thursday, as the Philadelphia Flyers general manager told reporters that excuses are not tolerated after seeing the club lose seven of its last eight games.

"Accountability is demanded of each other and yourself," Hextall told CSN Philly of the Flyers (5-7-3). "There’s nights when it’s hard to go out there and play. You don’t feel good, you travel, you’re tired or whatever it is. You know what? Too bad. You've got to go out there and play your (expletive) off."

The fiery blast comes on the heels of the Flyers dropping a 4-0 setback to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. First-year coach Dave Hakstol put his charges through a rigorous practice the following day, one which met with the approval of Hextall and was generally accepted by the players.

"It's been a tough practice, but we deserved one," struggling forward Jakub Voracek told NJ.com on Wednesday.

Speaking of the 26-year-old Czech, he has failed to score a goal this season after signing an eight-year, $66 million deal in the summer.

Voracek isn't alone with his goal-scoring troubles as Philadelphia has mustered just 27 this season, matching the Anaheim Ducks for the fewest in the league.

The Flyers look to get back on track when they host the Metropolitan Division-rival Washington Capitals on Thursday.
