Flyers to honor Briere prior to game vs. Sabres
The Philadelphia Flyers will honor former center Danny Briere prior to the team's home contest against the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 27.
Briere announced his retirement from a 17-year NHL career on Monday, with six seasons (2007-13) being played in Philadelphia and parts of four campaigns with Buffalo (2004-07).
"The Flyers are where I played the bulk of my career. I've had a great time in Philadelphia and have been very, very fortunate to have the chance to play here," Briere said before thanking owner Ed Snider, team president Paul Holmgren and former executive Peter Luukko. "It's been a great ride in an area that I still call home."
Signed to an eight-year, $52 million contract with the Flyers prior to the 2007-08 season, Briere collected 124 goals and 159 assists in 364 games with the team. The 37-year-old Quebec native scored 36 goals and 32 others during 62 career playoff contests with the club, and recorded a league-leading and franchise-best 30 points (12 tallies, 18 assists) in 23 games to help Philadelphia reach the Stanley Cup final in 2010.
Briere notched 307 goals, 389 assists and 744 penalty minutes in 973 career games with the then-Phoenix Coyotes, Sabres, Flyers, Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche. He finished with 53 goals and 63 assists in 124 career playoff contests.
A five-time 30-goal scorer, Briere recorded a career-high 95 points with the Sabres in 2006-07.
