Frederik Andersen Shut Out From World Cup
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen has been ruled out of the World Cup of Hockey, and that’s a good thing.
Andersen suffered an injury in an Olympic qualifying game a few days ago and was flown back to see the Toronto Maple Leafs doctors for what was described as an upper body injury.
The speculation is over; it’s 3-4 weeks on the shelf for Andersen.
This is a good thing.
There’s no need to have Andersen participate in the World Cup if he’s even slightly banged up. The World Cup is the NHL’s money machine opposite the Olympics. Sure, it’s entertaining, but the health of the Toronto Maple Leafs players will be more entertaining if they’re wearing the Leafs jersey and not a suit come October.
As for the remainder of the Leafs involved in the tournament, well, enjoy the show and hope no one goes down with an injury.
Andersen should be able to catch the end of the Toronto Maple Leafs training camp in preparation for the start of the regular season.
In case you missed the play where Andersen went down, here it is again.

Again, Oliver Bjorkstrand is the player guilty of friendly fire on the play. Bjorkstrand is a very good prospect with the Columbus Blue Jackets so, maybe, Matt Martin can welcome him to the Air Canada Centre when the Jackets are in town for the very last game of the regular season. Just kidding, it was accidental but Martin has to be used for something, right?
This is the best case scenario for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the fans. Andersen will be ready to go when the team kicks off the centennial season.
