Who’s Hot

The Sebastian Aho hype train is running at full steam ahead.  Aho scored his first NHL hat-trick against the Flyers on Tuesday night and added on an assist.  The four-point performance pushed Aho to 15 goals and 30 points on the season.  Aho has 16 points in his last 20 games and is closing in on the top rookies.  Charles Taylor makes the case for why Aho could push for Calder Trophy consideration this season.  Aho is by and far the Hurricanes’ most exciting player right now, and will continue to flourish this season.

Who’s Not

Victor Rask is riding a seven-game point drought.  After taking a big step forward last season, Rask looked likely to break out this season as a top line center.  He came out of the gates on fire with 17 points over his first 22 games.  His recent pace has slowed as of late, and while he is still playing a solid two-way game, this Hurricanes team needs Rask’s offensive production.  If the Canes want to push for the playoffs they will need Rask to find his early season form.

Storylines

After shaking up the lines and finding success against the Flyers, Bill Peters is keeping the same lineup for tonight’s game against the Oilers.

In today’s pregame skate Cam Ward left practice early.  Bill Peters said Ward would be a game-time decision.  After a solid bounce back outing on Tuesday night, Ward looks poised to help this team make a playoff run.
