The Anaheim Ducks aren't off to a very good start to their season.
The Ducks, who many picked as the pre-season Stanley Cup champion, are 1-4-1. They have managed to score just six goals so far this season. That's the lowest amount in the league.
It's also an abnormally low amount for a Bruce Boudreau-coached team. Boudreau, known for his cut-loose offensive ways, hasn't been able to get his team into gear.
And now, his days may be numbered.
Boudreau and his Ducks' play the Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators in their next five games. Those teams are a combined 25-8-1.
We've already seen the Columbus Blue Jackets let go of head coach Todd Richards in favor of John Tortorella. Could the Ducks potentially make a similar move within the next couple of weeks?
Maybe not.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Anaheim Ducks general manager Bob Murray may give Boudreau a longer leash than most general managers normally would. Friedman writes:
"...According to a couple of sources, Murray wants to see how things go. I do remember a conversation I had with the GM well after he fired Randy Carlyle. He said he believes a firing is the last resort, because teams should be forced to try and work through their problems. So, his modus operandi is to be as patient as he can."
That patience is going to be tested within the next couple of weeks.
