Hurricanes' Versteeg jokingly calls Toews 'an overgrown baby'
Carolina Hurricanes forward Kris Versteeg didn't miss a beat in trying to get under the skin of former teammate and current Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews.
With the clubs capping off their two-game season series in Raleigh (N.C.) on Tuesday, Versteeg told the Hurricanes' official website that he was looking forward to seeing some familiar faces. When asked which player was the easiest to rattle, Versteeg jokingly targeted Toews.
Via CarolinaHurricanes.com:
"(Toews') the easiest. He's just a big baby. He's just an overgrown baby."
Versteeg was brandishing a smile as he spoke of Toews, but later noted that he texted the comment to the captain.
The 29-year-old Versteeg perhaps was feeling confident after he recorded his first multi-goal performance in nearly three years on Sunday in a 5-2 victory over the Calgary Flames.
Patrick Kane's rebuttal: "I think he thinks he is, and he portrays that confidence. We all know how real bad he is." https://t.co/25PqcftPUp

Versteeg won't be alone on Tuesday as he joins former Blackhawk Joakim Nordstrom, who was also traded in September to Carolina as Chicago did its best to clear cap space. The pair enjoyed the initial laugh as the Hurricanes posted a 2-1 win on Dec. 27.
