Islanders duo lights up Empire State Building
New York Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy and forward Brock Nelson did their best to put fans in the proper spirit on Thursday by combining to flip the switch for a ceremonial lighting of the Empire State Building.
The Islanders duo traveled to the 103rd floor of the famous landmark, which soon became orange and blue to honor the team before Friday's season-opening game against the reigning Stanley Cup-champion Chicago Blackhawks.
The contest will be held at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the site of all Islanders' home games this season after the team spent the previous 43 years at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
"This is awesome," Leddy told the team's website. "Especially having never been up here. It’s definitely a cool experience. I was definitely looking forward to coming here."
