Islanders Show Another Embarrassing Effort Lose Fifth In A Row
For the fifth game in a row the Islanders did not score in the third period, and as a result they lost their fifth game in row.
Is this rock bottom? It certainly feels like it. The Islanders lost again, and they just continue to drag you along through the process.
This time was different, it was the Ottawa Senators who jumped out to the early lead. Bobby Ryan and Zack Smith both netted goals in the first period to give the Sens a two goal advantage after 20 minutes of play.
To our surprise the Islanders did not lay over and die. They instead fought back.

Anders Lee who just continues his insane hot streak scored his 10th of the season to bring the Islanders within one. The one spinzone I have for you is Anders Lee is definitely back.
It was then rookie Anthony Beauvillier on the nice breakaway to tie this game up.

But, shortly after Beau tied the game, Mark Stone would give the Sens the lead once again. After two periods the Isles trailed by a score of 3-2.
As a reminder during the Islanders four game losing streak they were outscored 8-0 in the third period. Keep that in mind as we discuss period three from tonight.
It looked like the Captain, John Tavares tied the game at three. But, after review the refs clearly saw that it hit the crossbar.

What made it worse was the Islanders would then allow Ottawa to get the next goal and this one was all but toast. Ottawa added two empty netters along the way as the Islanders power play struggled. Final tally outscored 11-0 over the now five game losing streak.
It felt like the Islanders had a ton of scoring chances. They just could not find the back of the net if their lives depended on it. On to Boston on Tuesday.
