Jeff Skinner beats Henrik Lundqvist with impressive backhand goal (Video)
Jeff Skinner continues to dominate the New York Rangers as he notched an impressive backhanded goal against Henrik Lundqvist.
New York Rangers fans really hate Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner. He has always done very well against them.
Entering Friday’s game, Skinner had eight goals and eight assists for 16 points against them in 22 games. He scored two goals against them in the first two periods, including an impressive backhander to beat Henrik Lundqvist.
That’s normally something fans expect to see from Sidney Crosby, but Skinner shows off impressive moves to get that past Lundqvist. He gets on a breakaway, but Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein catches up to him. That doesn’t stop Skinner, as he fires with a backhanded shot to beat Lundqvist. Give credit to Skinner, because beating Lundqvist like that is quite the feat.
While the Carolina Hurricanes are off to a slow start to their season, it’s worth noting Friday was their first home game of the season. They had their first six games on the road thanks to the state fair very close to their arena. With a 1-3-2 record, the Hurricanes were hoping for a better start to their season.
If Skinner can get going like he has in the past, it should help Carolina as they try to dig themselves out of a hole. He now has 10 goals against the Rangers in his career. Skinner nearly had a hat trick at the end of the second period, but it was ruled that Skinner’s shot hit Bryan Bickell.
In his career, the Hurricanes forward has 145 goals and 128 assists for 273 points in 425 games entering Friday. He won the Calder Trophy in the 2010-11 season at the age of 18 after scoring 31 goals with 63 points. Skinner has faced injury issues and inconsistency, but it seems like his game is back, judging by that goal.
