Kings' Jonathan Quick on injured reserve after suffering lower body injury
Wednesday's season-opener for the Los Angeles Kings did not go in their favor. Not only did the Kings lose to the Sharks in San Jose 2-1, but they also have lost their starting goaltender now that Jonathan Quick has been placed on injured reserve after getting hurt late in the first period.
The 30-year-old Quick suffered an unspecified lower body injury during a save on Wednesday after stopping 14 of 15 shots in the opening frame. He was replaced by backup Jeff Zatkoff, who gave up one goal on 16 shots in the final two periods of the Kings' 2-1 loss.
Following the game, Kings GM Dean Lombardi addressed the media and revealed that Quick's injury may be a serious one that would require him to miss a significant chunk of time.
The team announced on Thursday that Quick is week-to-week.
The Kings recalled NHL veteran Peter Budaj from their AHL affiliate in Ontario. The Kings are playing their home opener against the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday.
