Kruger, Oduya bring Stanley Cup to Sweden
Chicago Blackhawks restricted free-agent forward Marcus Kruger joined former teammate Johnny Oduya by celebrating with the Stanley Cup in their native Sweden on Tuesday.
The Stockholm natives brought the cherished chalice to a children's hospital before meeting fans at a soccer stadium.
Kruger informed the team last month that he would prefer a long-term contract extension, with his agent, J.P. Barry, telling the Chicago Tribune in an email that "We will be patient." Barry also informed the newspaper at the time that Kruger "will have no choice later in August but to do a shorter deal."
The 25-year-old Kruger collected seven goals and 10 assists while playing in 81 regular-season games for the Blackhawks last season. He had two of each in 23 postseason contests as Chicago went on to win its third Stanley Cup title in six seasons.
Oduya signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars on July 14. The 33-year-old defenseman scored two goals and set up 10 others in 76 regular-season games before notching five assists in the playoffs.
