Marc-Edouard Vlasic reminded a lot of people of Bobby Orr with an impressive game winning goal while falling down.

It has been many years since the NHL has seen a defenseman like Bobby Orr. Perhaps no defenseman will ever copy what Orr did over the course of his career. However, for one brief moment, San Jose Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic looked quite a bit like him. Vlasic scored a game winning goal in overtime against the Anaheim Ducks, inadvertently falling down in the process.

Looks just like a signature moment from Orr’s career, doesn’t it? Vlasic got on a breakaway during three on three overtime. Many overlook his speed because Vlasic is a defenseman, but he has some impressive wheels. He quickly gets past the Ducks defense and moves into the offensive zone with confidence. Vlasic looked like a natural weaving in towards Ducks goaltender John Gibson, barely managing to beat him while falling down.

The Sharks defenseman picked a great time to score his first goal of the season. His game winning goal halted San Jose’s two game losing streak to give them a much needed 2-1 win. The 29 year old Vlasic has played his entire career with the Sharks. In 744 career regular season games, he has 48 goals and 180 assists for 228 points. While Vlasic doesn’t put up impressive point totals like his teammate Brent Burns, he’s still one of the best all-around defensemen in the NHL.

Vlasic was a member of Team Canada’s championship team during the World Cup of Hockey. He was also a member of Canada’s gold medal team at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Originally drafted in the second round of the 2005 NHL Draft by the Sharks, Vlasic has provided his team with a lot of value over his career.
