Marek Svatos, Former NHLer and Longtime Colorado Avalanche Forward Passes Away at the Age of 34, News That Shocked the Hockey World on Sunday (Latest Update).
Marek Svatos was always an amazing player, teammate, and person. So this news really hits home and saddens everyone deep in the hockey world. November 5th, Marek passed away at the age of only 34, for reasons still unknown. Marek was found in his home in Lone Tree, Colorado.
Marek is survived by his wife Diana and his two children.
All we know at this point is the latest update provided by Lone Tree’s local television station via a tweet late Sunday afternoon:

Svatos had amazing NHL success, spending a total of 7 seasons in the NHL. Marek would play 6 seasons with Colorado and split 2010-11 with Nashville and Ottawa respectively. He would also spend 2 years in the AHL for the Hershey Bears in 2002-03 and 2004-05. Marek would score 100 goals with 72 assists for 172 points in 344 NHL games. He would also tally 27 goals, 32 assists for 59 points in 102 AHL games.
Marek’s rise to prominence would come during his time in the WHL. When he helped lead the Kootenay Ice to a Championship and a Memorial Cup victory in 2001-02. Marek hasn’t played hockey since the 2013-14 season in Slovakia where he scored 19 points in 26 games. Marek also won a Slovakian Extraliga Championship in 2013-14. In 25 KHL games, Svatos would tally up just 9 points. During his time in Slovakia, he would play 45 games totaling 23 points.

Colorado paid tribute to their former player before tonight’s St. Louis Blues game. A larger tribute is to be expected when they return back home to face the Arizona Coyotes November 8th.
