Matt Duchene rocks the stage at local music festival
Matt Duchene's Twitter bio says he is a "wannabe country singer", and Duchene recently had a chance to make that dream a reality for a day when he played with Gord Kidd and the 50/50 band at a Music in the Park night in his hometown of Haliburton, Ont.
Duchene played acoustic guitar and sang at the event, and videos on Periscope from local reporter Jen Watt show Duchene performing his renditions of "Friends in Low Places" by Garth Brooks, "Designated Drinker" by Alan Jackson and "Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett.
The 24-year-old center has a long-documented love of music, and he told NHL Network's Kathryn Tappen about some of the unique opportunities he's had to further explore his passion.
"My dad and I have a little band we like to play in the summer back home," Duchene told Tappen in an interview from October of 2013. "He plays bass and I play acoustic guitar. I got a chance to meet Luke Bryan at a recent concert of his. I'm the country hookup on our team. I played 'NHL 13' with Dierks Bentley on his bus. He's a huge hockey fan so it was pretty fun."
Duchene, a former third-overall draft pick, saw a dip in production with the Avalanche last season. After posting 70 points in 71 games with Colorado in 2013-14, Duchene recorded 55 points in 82 games last season.
