Montreal Canadiens: Don't Mess With Carey Price in the Crease

Montreal Canadiens Goaltender Carey Price defends his honor in a win against the New Jersey Devils.

During the first period of the Montreal Canadiens game verse the Devils, Carey Price had to defend his honor. The New Jersey Devils had run into Carey Price a few times during the period. This is what lead to the Devils first goal and it was even reviewed for goaltender interference but it wasn’t overturned.

Later on during the period, Carey Price was run again and this time it was by Kyle Palmieri. He charged the net and got his shot attempt off. Then Palmieri deliberately dropped himself right into Carey’s leg around the knee area.

The last thing that the Habs need is to have Carey Price injured again. Last season, Price suffered a devastating knee injury and this caused him to miss the rest of the season. Price no doubt wouldn’t want a repeat of last season.

As a result, the Canadiens plummeted in the standings and this was the start of the Canadiens worst meltdown in their franchise history. The Canadiens missed the playoffs and than had to make big changes this past off-season. One of those changes was adding Shea Weber and he has done a great job so far in clearing the Habs crease.

However, Price knows how to handle himself and he didn’t let this opportunity pass him by. Palmieri was just lying in the crease afterward and than Price just started wailing on him. Price gave him a few hits to the head with his blocker and the league may review this play.

Habs Could Have Defended Better

The last thing the Canadiens need is to have Price go down to injury as the Habs have lost a few players recently. The Canadiens could have defended the play better and this would have led to nothing resulting. Also, Petry could have done a better job of trying to remove Palmieri from the goal.

The Canadiens will have to be on high alert and can’t let teams do this to Price. The Habs shouldn’t want Price to have to get into fights or deal with opposing players charging the net. Fortunately, no injury resulted but hopefully the Habs learn a lesson from this.
