Montreal Canadiens Prospect Selected to Represent Canada

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 10:27 p.m. ET

Montreal Canadiens Prospect Noah Juulsen was selected to play for team Canada at the World Junior Championship Tournament.

The Montreal Canadiens will have one of their top prospects play for team Canada, and that is Noah Juulsen. The Defensemen will have a chance to show Habs fans his potential as he plays against some of the worlds top NHL prospects. Juulsen will play a key role for Canada and will likely see a lot of ice time throughout the tournament.

Noah had been one of the final cuts or one of the last in consideration for Canada’s Junior team in years past. However, this season Juulsen will finally get the opportunity to represent Canada.

    Scouting Report

Juulsen was the Canadiens first round pick back in 2015 and was selected 25th overall. Noah has good size as he stands at six foot, three inches tall, and weighs 190 pounds. Juulsen is a solid two way defender and can play physical at times.

Here is a scouting report from Joe Curtis at eliteprospects.com that further explains the type of player Juulsen is:

“A solid two-way defender, Noah Juulsen is able to force plays and always find ways to support his teammates. Juulsen is a smooth, yet not dynamic skater, and is mobile when he needs to be. Plays with a chip on his shoulder, and isn’t afraid to take the hit to make the play. Sees the ice well and has the individual skills to carry out the possibilities he sees. Very poised with the puck; calm and controls the play with authority.”

    Future With the Habs

Juulsen will hopefully develop into the solid top four Defensemen that he is projected to be. Although, the Canadiens currently have two stout Defencemen who play the right side signed long term. Shea Weber will be under contract until the end of the 2022-23 season and Jeff Petry is signed until the end of 2020-21 season.Next: Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs Should make a TradeJuulsen may have to wait a long time before he gets a shot with the Habs. In fact, a winning habit recently discussed a possible trade scenario involving Juulsen. The Habs have a lack of depth at Center for the future and Juulsen could wind up being a trade chip.

    Final Thoughts

That being said, it would be wonderful to watch Juulsen in the Bleu, Blanc, et Rouge of the Montreal Canadiens. But for now, it will be a treat to watch him wear the Team Canada sweater. Hopefully, Juulsen can help his team bring home gold.
