Montreal Canadiens Recall Charles Hudon

The Montreal Canadiens have called up Charles Hudon from the St. John’s Ice Caps.

The Montreal Canadiens announced this evening that Charles Hudon has been called up. The forward had been with the St. John’s Ice Caps of the American Hockey League. He will join the Canadiens in time for Friday night’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Hudon was the Canadiens fifth round draft pick in 2012. Since then, he has become a two-way force in both the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the AHL. He played two more seasons in the QMJHL after being drafted and is now in his third season with the Habs top affiliate.

Hudon has quickly blossomed into an offensive threat in the minors. He scored 19 goals and 57 points in 75 games in his rookie AHL campaign. He followed that up with 28 goals and 53 points in 67 contests last season.

This season, Hudon has stepped up his offensive game once again. He currently leads the AHL in goals with nine and has 14 points in 15 games. Hudon was brought up by the Habs for three games last season and chipped in two assists.

The Alma, Quebec native was always known for his smart, two-way game. He will bring that, with an added offensive touch to the National Hockey League now.

The move signals that Alex Radulov may be out of tomorrow night’s game. Montreal takes on the Carolina Hurricanes, and Radulov missed their last game with an illness. He hasn’t been ruled out of the Hurricanes game yet, but a call up is a sign Radulov may be out again.

Hudon is the perfect replacement. He should be given an offensive role as he is leading the AHL in goals at the age of 21. He is a dependable two-way player and frankly, should have been given this opportunity long ago.
