Nashville Predators: Forsberg's 3 Points Help Lead Sweden Over Finland

Nashville Predators both past and present push Team Sweden past archrival Finland in World Cup action.

The Nashville Predators have been making an impact at the world level. Even though it’s only the exhibition round of the World Cup tournament, the on ice action couldn’t be more intense as international rivalries come to a head once again.

Sweden’s rivalry with neighboring Finland is as intense as they come. With two games already played between these bitter rivals, the stage is set for more memorable matchups throughout the tournament.

Team Finland, including our very own Pekka Rinne, got the last laugh in their first exhibition game as they edged Sweden 3-2 in the dying seconds of overtime thanks to Olli Maata of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Maata, in a 2 on 1 rush to the net, wristed a perfect shot past Jonas Enroth of the Toronto Maple Leafs for the game winning goal.

Finland’s glory would be short-lived however as Sweden dominated the rematch from earlier today. This time around, Team Sweden erupted for six goals, scoring at least one in every period and never once trailing in the game despite Finland coming close to closing the gap in the second after they scored two late goals before the intermission.

Once the third period began, Filip Forsberg took the spotlight as the young phenom erupted for three points of his own, including assisting on Sweden’s 4th and 5th goals of the game before burying one of his own for their 6th and final goal of the night.

Despite Forsberg’s tremendous showing in today’s game, he was still overshadowed by a former Predator as Patric Hornqvist out produced him on the score sheet with four points of his own (2g,2a) to pace team Sweden in their win over Finland.

Keep an eye on Filip Forsberg for more dominant performances like this as the World Cup continues and we inch ever closer to the Nashville Predators season opener on October 14th.
