Nelson's agent claims he hasn't heard from Isles in six weeks
The agent of restricted free-agent center Brock Nelson declared that he hasn't had any contact from the New York Islanders in quite some time.
"We haven't heard from them in six weeks," Nelson's agent Ron Salcer told Arthur Staple of Newsday on Monday. "Garth (Snow, the Islanders' general manager) and I talked six weeks ago after they made an offer, which was nowhere near commensurate with what players like Brock are making. Garth said he'd get back to me and that was it. No negotiations whatsoever."
Salcer told Staple that New York offered the 23-year-old Nelson a two-year deal, but it was not to their liking.
The Islanders' long-standing rule has been that players who do not sign by the time training camp begins sit out for the entire year. New York opens training camp on Thursday.
Nelson collected 20 goals and 22 assists while playing in all 82 games last season. Selected 30th overall in the 2010 draft, Nelson has scored 34 goals and set up 34 others in 154 career contests.
