New Jersey Devils: Cory Schneider Off To Best Start of His Career

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The New Jersey Devils are off to a good start this season, but their goalie Cory Schneider has been nothing short of amazing.

It is no secret that the New Jersey Devils have a great goalie in Cory Schneider. So far this season, he has been off to the best start to a season in his career. While the Devils continue to struggle to score goals, Schneider has been a rock in the net for them this season.

In five games this season, Schneider has totaled a .943 save percentage and has only allowed nine goals through five games. Even though Schneider has had good starts to the season before, both of those numbers are the best through his first five games of a season.

The good start for Schneider has put him among the elite in most goalie categories to start the season. Schneider is ranked fifth in save percentage, sixth is GAA, and third in saves. Compared to the goalies ahead of him, Schneider has played more games.

The Devils and Schneider will be challenged in the later part of the upcoming week by the Tampa Bay Lightning and Chicago Blackhawks. In Tampa Bay earlier this month, the Devils lost by a score of 3-2, which was the most goals that they allowed this season in a game.

At home, Schneider and the Devils will surely be looking to avenge the loss. Due to Schneider playing in the first five games of the season, a break for the star goalie could be coming up soon. With the back-to-back, this coming weekend on Friday and Saturday, one of those games will likely be the one when Schneider gets his first break of the season.

While Schneider has played great individually, the offense needs to pick up their production for him. If the Devils didn’t have the worst ranked offense in the league, Schneider would likely have a few more wins.

Schneider is off to the best start in his career so far. Now, let’s see if it can translate in some more wins for the Devils in the coming weeks.
