New Jersey Devils Sign Veteran Defenseman Kyle Quincey

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

This is a good move for the New Jersey Devils. The blue line is a bit thin, and Kyle Quincey is a capable, experienced defender who is undervalued due to an ankle injury sustained during the 2015-16 season

Today, New Jersey Devils agreed to a contract with defenseman Kyle Quincey on a one-year, one-way $1,250,000 contract.  In 2015-16, Quincey played in 47 games with the Detroit Red Wings, tallying four goals and seven assists for 11 points. Here is my quick take on the signing.

All in all, this is a solid move by Ray Shero. It better positions the Devils for success this year, yet doesn’t necessarily squeeze out any of the younger defenders who may or may not come to the forefront and emerge as true NHL players this season. It helps fill out the roster in the greatest area of need for the club. I like it a lot.
