New York Islanders Daily: Casey Cizikas Won't Be Back Soon

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 10:00 p.m. ET

The New York Islanders believed that Casey Cizikas would be day to day. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Casey Cizikas, the New York Islanders fourth liner and penalty kill specialist won’t be back as soon as originally thought. After last night’s game Jack Capuano revealed that Cizikas has yet to resume skating.

He had a career high 29 points last year, and 13 so far this year through 29 games before the injury.

Ultimately this will be a big hit to the Islanders already struggling penalty kill. They’ve been a disaster, plagued by inconsistency but Cizikas was one of the mainstays. No time table was given for his return.

There seems to be some controversy in IslesTwitter land, with whether or not the Casey Cizikas and Cal Clutterbuck deals are worth it. The main issue people have is the prioritizing of depth guys over elite forwards.

I understand this gripe, the eight year search for an elite wing for John Tavares has been a tough battle to watch. Although Cizikas plays a bigger role on this team than people realize. You obviously need the elite guy, but it takes guys like Cizikas and Clutterbuck to win as well. The team will miss his absence.
