New York Islanders Daily: Freeing Up Space Before Next Year

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 4:51 p.m. ET

The New York Islanders look to need a big time overhaul. It would be wise for them to start moving players out to get a jump on the process.

Garth Snow would be smart to start moving players in preparation for the New York Islanders 2017 season. They’re going no where fast and are in a tough situation for next year as currently constructed.

The biggest problem is that they already have $65.8 million in cap space tied up for next year. All fourteen of the forwards are signed through next year. Including the injured Mikhail Grabovski.

In order to combat that Snow is going to have to make some trades. The problem is the market seems to be dead.

Nobody is making significant moves, only minor swaps. In addition to that almost all the movable pieces are signed through the following year or even beyond which then makes it tougher for Snow to move them.

In a season that’s already gone down the drain before Christmas it could get even worse as the deadline comes closer with Garth Snow scrambling to find a suitor for a trade.
