New York Islanders Daily: Ryan Strome's Wake-Up Call

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The New York Islanders had a scary win last night. But, Ryan Strome returned to the lineup and had a lot to play for.

The Ryan Strome and Jack Capuano relationship is an odd one. It can seem like at times the New York Islanders head coach uses Strome as the scapegoat but, this time Strome’s response might be different.

He took this benching as a wake-up call, something the Isles need as a team.

“I think our whole team needs a wake-up call,” Strome said Wednesday morning. “I think sitting pretty low in the standings is tough, so obviously you want to play your best, want to contribute. I’m responsible to go out there every night and perform. I think all you can do is look towards [the game] and putting your best foot forward.”

I thought Strome played decent last night. He was back in his natural position of center where he belongs so that was a plus.

I’m of the firm belief that he’s got to play in order to get better. It doesn’t do Strome any good having him sit. The goal is to get him in gear, not to shatter his confidence. Strome’s a very talented player, hopefully he’s figured it out.
