New York Islanders: Matt Martin Cuts The Hair

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Ex New York Islanders fourth liner Matt Martin decided to cut his signature long flowing hair, and it was shown off yesterday.

There’s a couple reasons to talk about this story. Number one, Matt Martin was a fan favorite Islander. Even though he’s not on the team anymore people still care about him. The second reason is not every story has to be a serious one.

How many times does a reader really want to read about predictions or other minimal stories that are drawn up during the dog days of summer. So today, the focus is on Matty Marts’ hair.

The long flowing hair was signature Matt Martin, many athletes have a signature, it’s how their recognized. Martin’s was the guy who skated around like a mad man with the long flow hair. It just worked for him.

Although he didn’t always have the flow

Yes, that’s baby Matt Martin at rookie camp in 2010. In the earlier stages of his career he went with the short haired look, although he still threw his body around like a mad man. Here’s the development of the locks

From rookie

To 2013 it started to grow to medium length flow

to this past year with the full on mane (Enjoy this fight as well)

And now we’re back to square one with the short hair. Hope you somewhat enjoyed going through the stages and development of Matt Martin’s hair. Again, it’s August and there’s only so many creative ways you can try to write a season preview. It gets old writing and I’m sure reading as well so I tried to change it up a bit today and go with a lighter, more fun read.

In all seriousness got to respect Matt for all his charity work and everything he did for the Islanders on and off the ice. Best of luck in Toronto and maybe think about growing the hair back out, I hear it gets cold up north you might need it.
