The New York Islanders were able to win in their home-opener against the Anaheim Ducks for their first win of the season. The Islanders came out firing in the first period, as they were able to set the tone with a goal in the first period.
While using the energy in the building, the Islanders looked like a team that was hungry to get the lead first. After the first period, the Ducks bounced back with a strong second period, but they were unable to score on 13 shots in the period.
The Islanders would bounce back quickly in overtime, as Josh Bailey was able to score the game-winner on a beautiful move.
Three Stars:
Josh Bailey, Islanders – As mentioned before, Josh Bailey scored the game-winner for the Islanders, and that makes him deserving of being one of the stars of the game. The goal was the first of the season for Bailey, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Brock Nelson, Islanders – Brock Nelson of the Islanders was able to score the first goal of the game. Nelson is one of the players that the Islanders are hoping will step up this season, and so far he has.
John Tavares, Islanders – John Tavares was held scoreless in the first two games of the season, but he was able to get his first goal of the season in the third period. The goal by Tavares gave the Islanders a 2-0 lead at the time and was a welcomed sight for Islanders fans.
