Which New York Rangers’ forward is closing in on 400 goals? What New York Rangers defenseman is closing in on 400 games played? Find out these answers and more in Broadway Blueshirts’ Blast!

Broadway Blueshirt Blasts will be a reoccurring editorial throughout the 2016-17 season. “Blasts” will look at milestones in the careers of NY Rangers. Updates on goals, assists, points and games played. Past performances in the history of the Broadway Blueshirts will also be highlighted. I will not be afraid to “go there” at times, but will also keep it fair and polite. With this being the 90th season of the Rangers, there will be a ton of info in these “Blast” features. Please come along and follow the journey of this season.

First off, I would like to congratulate Ranger Captain Ryan McDonagh and his wife Kaylee on the birth of their first child, Fallon Erin McDonagh. On the ice, the game against the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday, October 23rd, will be the 396th game of his New York Ranges/NHL career, which is just 4 games shy of the 400 mark.

Speaking of 400…

Rick Nash headed into the game vs Arizona sitting on 395 career goals, leaving Monster Nash but 5 goals away from 400 for his career. He has 2 so far this season in the first 5 games of the season and I believe they will start coming soon at a decent clip.

Center of Attention

Mika Zibanejad was acquired from the Ottawa Senators in a trade that sent Derick Brassard out of NY, and so far it looks like a very good deal. In just 5 games so far, Mika has 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points. He is the center of the Rangers’ top line and has also won 64 of 107 face offs, for a percentage of 59.8; which is pretty darn good.

Blasts from the Past

October 23, 1966: Ed Giacomin records his first NHL shutout, as the Rangers defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 1-0. Fast Eddie makes 29 saves to blank the Leafs

October 23, 1986: Defenseman and future Captain Brad Park makes his NHL debut in a 6-1 victory over the California Seals

October 23, 1988: Tony Granato scores his first NHL goal. He adds 2 assists as well in an 8-2 victory over the Quebec Nordiques. That season, Tony would score 36 goals, which still stands as a NY Ranger record for a rookie.

Anniversary Nights

Celebrating their 90th season this year, the New York Rangers will highlight Original Six games during the season. Heritage uniforms will be worn during those games and Rangers’ Alumni will be in the building to meet and greet the best hockey fans in the world. Detroit was the first of these games.
