Hartford Offers to Host Islanders
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy offered Hartford’s XL Center as a potential new home for the New York Islanders if their lease isn’t renewed following the 2018-19 season. Latest reports suggest Barclays Center is ready to move on from the Isles, leaving the team in limbo as they figure out what to do. [My Record Journal]
Caps Recall Vrana
The Washington Capitals used an emergency recall on forward Jakub Vrana ahead of Saturday’s tilt in Montreal. A former first rounder, Vrana has been highly productive at the AHL level. The move was made following a lower body to forward Justin Williams. [Stars and Sticks]
Spezza Out At Least a Week
It sounds like the Dallas Stars will be without an important piece for a little while. Veteran Jason Spezza suffered an upper-body injury and coach Lindy Ruff said he could be out a week or two, maybe even longer. Another tough break for a team battling to keep in the playoff hunt. [The Score]
Red Wings Waive Marchenko
With a returning defender in Brendan Smith, the Detroit Red Wings were forced to place Russian blueliner Alexey Marchenko on waivers Friday. Given his age (25) and potential, it seems unlikely that he’s headed to Grand Rapids. [Octopus Thrower]
Fastest Rising Prospects in 2017 Draft
Allan Mitchell over at Bleacher Report put together a list featuring some of the fastest rising prospects ahead of the 2017 NHL Draft. Names such as Jake Oettinger (Boston U netminder), and Robert Thomas (OHL London) are just a couple making noise in the back half of 2016-17. [Bleacher Report]
Bruins Need to be More Than One-Line Team
Andrew Thompson over at Causeway Crowd wrote an interesting editorial talking about how the Boston Bruins need to be more than a one-line team. Give Brad Marchand some credit, 13 goals in 15 games in unbelievable. So is the fact that 55 of Boston’s 135 goals have come from the top line. So, the B’s clearly need a little more help from nine other guys. [Causeway Crowd]
NHL Daily Morning Rant
Regarding Alexey Marchenko being placed on waivers: as I stated, I’d be very surprised if he gets through all 30 teams. In fact, it wouldn’t be overly shocking to see one of the first teams with eligibility grab him. I’m looking at clubs such as Colorado, Arizona, Tampa Bay, or Buffalo.
