NHL Roundup: P.K. Subban scores in debut, McDavid douses Flames
Catch up on all the action from Friday Oct. 14 in today’s NHL Roundup.
Friday didn’t feature a full slate of NHL games, as there were just three games. However, a lot still happened around the league. P.K. Subban dominated in his Nashville Predators debut, scoring and celebrating in typical Subban style. Connor McDavid once again dominated against the Flames, finishing with a three point night. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Flyers got their season started off right with a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings.
Speaking of the Kings, they might be in a bit of trouble. After initial optimistic reports regarding the health of goalie Jonathan Quick, it turns out he might miss more time than expected. The Buffalo Sabres got some more terrible injury news, as forward Evander Kane will miss several weeks of time after cracking three of his ribs.
Also, Montreal Canadiens fans are starting to panic about Carey Price, as he will not play tonight against the Ottawa Senators. Ryan Hartman of the Chicago Blackhawks will be missing some time after suffering an injury in the first period against the Predators.
Last Night’s Scores
As mentioned earlier, Subban scored his first goal with the Predators in his home debut. His celebration didn’t disappoint. Teammate Roman Josi made sure Subban didn’t steal the show with two power play goals of his own. The new Predators power play should be one of the deadliest and most fascinating in the NHL. Nashville’s power play runs through their defensemen. In order to have a deadly power play run by your defensemen, you need to have the perfect cast of defensemen. It’s just a one game sample size, but it appears Nashville has it.
Connor McDavid sees Auston Matthews’ four goals and raises him two three point efforts to start the season. McDavid had a goal and two assists, leading the Edmonton Oilers to a 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames. Leon Draisaitl had three points as well with two goals and an assist. Jordan Eberle had a goal and an assist while Milan Lucic had two assists.
The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 behind Sean Couturier’s two goals and Travis Konecny’s two assists. Philly jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second period and never looked back.
