Once a fan, now a teammate: Ottawa's Lazar celebrates throwback Thursday with old autographs
Back in 2007, Ottawa Senators rookie Curtis Lazar was just a 12-year-old hockey player who, like most Canadian children his age, idolized professional players. But 12-year-old Lazar probably never expected to play alongside one of the players he looked up to back then.
On Thursday, Lazar tweeted a photo of an autograph he got back in 2007 from Kyle Turris, who is now Lazar's teammate.
Turris played junior hockey in British Columbia, where Lazar grew up, before spending the 2007-08 season as a collegiate hockey player at the University of Wisconsin. Lazar made the jump to the pros at the end of the 2007-08 season and played in three games that year with the then-Phoenix Coyotes.
Turris responded to Lazar's tweet Thursday with a joke of his own, saying he had Chris Phillips checking up on Lazar's marks for him. Lazar famously lived with Phillips this season, and the rookie referred to Phillips as "Papa" in an earlier tweet.
