Ottawa's Erik Karlsson named Norris Trophy finalist

Ottawa captain Erik Karlsson is up for his second career Norris Trophy, the NHL announced Monday. The defenseman is one of three finalists for the award -- which is given to the best defenseman in the league -- as he is joined by Drew Doughty of the Los Angeles Kings and P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens.

Karlsson led all defensemen in points this season with 66 points (21 goals, 45 assists) in 82 games. He ranked third in the NHL in total ice time (2,234:55 minutes) and finished in a tie for first among defensemen with 30 power-play points.

Karlsson's offensive prowess led to some fans remarking on Tumblr that Karlsson should be a Selke finalist as well. The Selke Trophy is awarded to the best defensive forward in the league. Karlsson joked on Tumblr that perhaps he had a new career goal.
