Ouch! Blackhawks' Scuderi takes slap shot to face
At least we know what new Blackhawks defenseman Rob Scuderi wants for Christmas.
Some good painkillers and new teeth.
With his team getting thumped 3-0 and playing short-handed late in the third, the 36-year-old, 12-year veteran was still doing his job, trying to sweep away traffic in front of goalie Corey Crawford.
Instead, he caught a deflected Alex Goligoski slap shot square in the face. As you can see in the video above, he immediately dropped in a heap and players from both teams called for trainers.
He left the ice with a towel over his face and did not return to the game, just his fifth with Chicago after his trade from Pittsburgh earlier this month.
Certainly had to hurt, but on the bright side, he kept the puck out of the net.
@robscuderi nice D on the Stars PP. Hope to see you back I the ice after that redirect to the face!!

On the down side, Chicago lost the game 4-0.
But the night ended with a tad of good news.
Q hasn't gotten final word yet, but he thinks that Rob Scuderi is OK after that brutal-looking shot to the face. #Blackhawks

At least he gets the extended Christmas break to recover. The Blackhawks don’t play again until Sunday at home against Carolina.
