Panthers present Jagr with amazing birthday cake

Published Feb. 16, 2016 10:19 a.m. ET

The Florida Panthers appealed to both country and team when presenting veteran forward Jaromir Jagr with an imaginative birthday cake on Monday.

Jagr was able to celebrate his 44th birthday in style with a cake in the likeness of a split jersey involving both the Panthers and the Czech Republic. The creative dessert provided the icing on a sweet night as Florida skated to a 2-1 shootout victory over Pittsburgh, the franchise that selected Jagr with the fifth overall pick in the 1990 draft.

Jagr, who became the 10th player in NHL history - and fifth non-goalie - to appear in a game at that age, is on record as saying that he'd like to play until he's 50.

The future Hall of Famer is performing at a high rate - regardless of age. Jagr's 40 points (17 goals, 23 assists) are tied with 22-year-old forward Jonathan Huberdeau for the team lead on the Atlantic Division-best Panthers (33-18-6).

Hopefully Jagr didn't have too much cake following Monday's game. After all, Tuesday's open practice is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
