Patrick Sharp draws comparison between building blocks of Blackhawks, Stars
Former Blackhawks Patrick Sharp and Johnny Oduya had a chance to reflect on the past this week when they received their Stanley Cup rings on Tuesday night, and Sharp said he believes the Stars can build something similar to the Chicago dynasty down in Dallas.
In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, Sharp said the current Dallas team reminds him of the Blackhawks teams of old who built the foundation for the organization to become a perennial Stanley Cup contender, but that does not mean the Stars do not have more growing pains to endure.
"It took a while. We struggled, but that was probably a good thing," Sharp told the Dallas Morning News. "The organization allowed us to learn from it, and that made winning even better, because we knew where we had come from and how much work we had done. You can't do this without a lot of work."
Sharp spent 10 seasons in Chicago and won three Stanley Cup championships there, but he also played for Chicago when the Blackhawks were still finishing under .500 back in the mid-2000s. So if anyone knows what it takes for a team to grow into a champion, it's Sharp.
