Penguins' Bennett admits sustaining injury during goal celebration
Pittsburgh Penguins forward Beau Bennett has been sidelined for the team's last five games after injuring himself during a goal celebration.
Yes, you read that right. Bennett sustained an undisclosed injury celebrating his one and only goal of the season in the Penguins' 3-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 13.
"I hurt myself celebrating a goal, unfortunately," the oft-injured Bennett told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "That’s just unlucky. But I’ve learned to keep my arms down and celebrate less, I guess."
Coach Mike Johnston told the team's website that it was "very unique the way the injury happened" and that "sometimes for Beau, that's the way it goes."
While it's uncertain precisely how the 23-year-old Bennett injured himself, he did bump his chest against the glass after beating reigning Vezina and Hart Trophy winner Carey Price on the tally.
Bennett has been in the lineup for 73 of the team's 172 games since the start of the 2013-14 season. He practiced on Sunday and hopes to return to the ice for the Penguins' game against the Metropolitan Division-rival Washington Capitals on Wednesday.
The 20th overall pick of the 2010 draft, Bennett would be in line to play in his 100th career contest - barring any additional injuries.
