Penguins' Malkin, Bonino return to practice, ruled out vs. Bruins

Although Evgeni Malkin changed jerseys during practice on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins forward will not be in the lineup the following day when the team visits the Boston Bruins.

Malkin, who has been sidelined with a lower-body injury since Feb. 2, wore a yellow jersey at the onset of practice to signify that he would not take part in contract drills. Later in the session, the 29-year-old Malkin returned with a traditional black jersey and worked with the club's top power-play unit.

Center Nick Bonino, who has been sidelined with a hand injury since Jan. 12, was also on the ice Tuesday - much to the relief of coach Mike Sullivan. Via PittsburghPenguins.com:

"It's a big step for them to join the team. It's their first practice with the team. I thought both of them looked strong. They're that much closer."

Malkin, who led Pittsburgh in goals (23) at the time of his injury, also has 26 assists for 49 points. The final total trails only captain Sidney Crosby (56) for tops on the team.

The Penguins (30-20-8), who have posted a 5-3-1 mark in Malkin's absence, will wrap up a brief two-game road trip against the Bruins (32-22-6) on Wednesday.
