Perry, Getzlaf continue scoring trend, put the Flames in their place
For many years, the Ducks have been led by Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf. The two provided a tremendous amount of offensive scoring throughout their entire careers.
Last night was no different. Corey Perry added two goals and two assists, and Ryan Getzlaf added a goal and three assists of his own in the 6-1 drubbing of the Calgary Flames in Game One.
"With those two going, they're unstoppable," Patrick Maroon, Perry and Getzlaf's linemate, said. "When they're on their 'A' game, I don't think anyone can stop those two. I just feel like I'm just out there sometimes, but that's the nature of the game. Those two are so good, defensively and offensively, when they're on their game no one can stop them."
And good players tend to perform well when it's their moment to shine. Perry has five goals in five games during the Ducks' playoff campaign, and his 11 points is already tied with his playoff point output last year. Getzlaf is right behind Perry in production, with two goals and six assists in the five playoff games.
While the Ducks are getting secondary scoring from guys like Ryan Kesler, Jakob Silfverberg and Andrew Cogliano, Anaheim needs both Getzlaf and Perry to remain electric in the playoffs in order to succeed. Getzlaf is Anaheim's all-time leading scorer in the playoffs, with 82 points in 86 games. Perry isn't all too close behind with 67 points in 79 games, but he is just three points away from moving passed Teemu Selanne second all-time in Ducks playoffs points.
Both guys have reached the Stanley Cup before in the 2006-07 season, but they were young second line players, led offensively by Selanne, Andy McDonald, Dustin Penner and Chris Kunitz. Now it's their moment to lead the Ducks to victory, they just need to keep on pushing.
