Red Wings' Green recalls meeting Michelle Obama while playing street hockey

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Mike Green enjoyed several fond memories during his 10 seasons playing in the nation's capital, including a brief exchange with First Lady Michelle Obama that ranks high on the list.

While competing with the Washington Capitals, Green recalled to MLive about taking his children on a memorable visit to the White House. An impromptu street hockey game came to pass, with Green seeing Obama in a referee's role.

"We were playing street hockey on the South Lawn and Michelle Obama was dropping the puck and she had asked me, 'So, what do I do?'" the 30-year-old Alberta native told MLive. "And I said (laughs), 'Just drop it. There's nothing much more to it.' That was the extent of our conversation."

Green admitted that Michelle's famous husband was also in attendance, but he didn't participate in the hockey game.

So much for Green's brush with fame.
