Report: Doctors advise Devils' Clowe to retire
Doctors have advised New Jersey Devils rugged forward Ryane Clowe against resuming his NHL career, according to Tom Gulitti of NorthJersey.com.
Clowe has suffered four concussions in the last two years and has not played since Nov. 6, when he received an elbow to the head from St. Louis Blues captain David Backes.
"I didn't really sit down and count them all. I was just worrying about recovering," the 32-year-old Clowe told NorthJersey.com of the concussions.
New Jersey general manager Ray Shero told the website that Clowe will remain on injured reserve or long-term injured reserve over the remaining three seasons of his five-year, $24.25 million deal.
Clowe scored one goal and set up three others in 13 games with the Devils in 2014-15. The Newfoundland native has recorded 112 tallies and 197 assists in 491 career contests with the San Jose Sharks, New York Rangers and Devils.
