Report: Islanders, veteran Zidlicky in talks

Published Aug. 12, 2015 2:06 p.m. ET

The New York Islanders reportedly would like to add to their impressive list of defensemen.

The Islanders have been in talks with unrestricted free-agent blue-liner Marek Zidlicky, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple. The team and Zidlicky have been kicking the tires on a deal for several weeks, Staple reported on Wednesday.

Zidlicky scored seven goals and set up 27 others while splitting the 2014-15 season between the New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings. The 38-year-old collected three goals and eight assists in 21 games with the Red Wings after being acquired from the Devils at the trade deadline.

Zidlicky especially was potent on the power play last season, recording six of his seven goals and 20 points overall on the man advantage.
