Report: Sabres sign Cody Franson
The Buffalo Sabres have signed defenseman Cody Franson to a two-year, $6.650 million deal, according to hockey insider Pierre LeBrun.
The 28-year-old defenseman was one of the better remaining free agents.
At 6'5", Franson is a rangy two-way defenseman that set career highs last season with 36 points and 29 assists in 78 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Nashville Predators.
Franson joins a team that surrendered 269 goals last season, second worst in the league.
The Sabres have been continually busy this offseason, adding significant parts all throughout the year. The team will have new forwards to work with in Jack Eichel, Ryan O'Reilly and Evander Kane, new defensemen in Franson and Matt Donovan, a new goaltender in Robin Lehner and a new coach in Dan Bylsma. Throw in the expected full-time arrival in Sam Reinhart and the Sabres appear to be a brand new team.
