Report: Sean Avery arrested on drug-related charges; lawyer vows fight
Former NHL pest Sean Avery was arrested on Sept. 30 by Southhampton Village Police after a routine traffic stop, according to local police.
Avery, who played in 580 NHL games, was reportedlycharged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The charges stem from two separate alleged incidets. Southhampton Village Police reportedly pulled him over on Sept. 30 to question him about accusations that he had thrown objects at passing cars the day before, according to the New York Post. Allegedly, Avery had previously called Southhampton Village Police about speeding cars on David Whites Lane in Southhampton, where the 35-year-old moved after ending his NHL career.
But during the traffic stop, authorities allegedly found two prescription drugs, acetaminophen with oxycodone and roxicodone.
Avery was transported to police headquarters and charged, but was released on $500 bail. He will appear in court at a later date, according to the report.
His lawyer claims Avery had prescriptions for the medications found during the stop, and a tweet from the former player appears to back tht up.

"Mr. Avery has prescriptions for the medications that were the basis of this charge,” lawyer Edward Burke Jr. said. As for the criminal mischief charge, Burke said they “look forward” to facing that charge in court.
As evident with his latest Twitter posts, Avery is not exactly a fan of the Southhampton Village Police Department.
