Sabres defenseman Bogosian to have season-ending hip surgery

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) Buffalo Sabres veteran defenseman Zach Bogosian will miss the remainder of the season after it was determined he requires hip surgery.

General manager Jason Botterill announced the decision on Friday in saying Bogosian will miss four to six months with the expectation the player will be ready for the start of training camp next season. Botterill says Bogosian has been dealing with the injury since the start of the season.

Bogosian missed the past six games, including Buffalo's 4-0 win at Vancouver on Thursday night. The 10th-year NHL player has just one assist in being limited to playing just 18 games after also missing the first 25 games of the season.

The Sabres enter the NHL All-Star break in last place in the Eastern Conference despite winning three straight for the first time in nearly a calendar year. Buffalo is off until Tuesday, when the team plays New Jersey to open a five-game homestand.
