Senators GM Murray to make 2015-16 season his last
After eight years as the Senators' general manager, Bryan Murray has begun planning his departure. Murray told CBC in an interview this week that the 2015-16 NHL season will be his last as GM.
The 72-year-old is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment for colon cancer, which he was diagnosed with in the summer of 2014. He told CBC's Hallie Cotnam, "I’m not as energized as I once was, but age has a little to do with that, as well as the sickness."
Murray said that he hopes to transition into an advisory role with the Senators after stepping down.
"(I like the idea) of sharing some knowledge to the young people that will eventually take over here," Murray told Cotnam, "and help as much as I can rebuild this hockey team to a contending hockey team."
Before his time in the Ottawa front office, Murray spent 17 years as an NHL coach, and he still ranks 10th on the career wins list with 620.
